A motorist has recounted a frightening experience after more than 100 cows reportedly strayed onto the newly constructed Okpanam/Ibusa Bypass, colliding with his vehicle and a commercial tricycle (keke), leaving both badly damaged.
According to the victim, the incident occurred while he was returning from his village. He alleged that immediately after the crash, the herdsmen responsible for the cattle fled into the nearby bush, leaving the scene.
Fortunately, the tricycle rider survived the accident, averting what could have been a fatal tragedy.
The matter has since been reported to the Divisional Police Headquarters in Okpanam for investigation.
The incident has once again reignited concerns over the dangers of open grazing on public roads and within communities, with many residents calling for stricter enforcement of laws aimed at preventing such avoidable accidents.
